Etapa corta, de 12 kilómetros. Muy dura. Si ha llovido, el firme es casi intransitable en la parte en que nos internamos en bosque para el ascenso a La Laguna. Emblemática, porque dejaremos atrás Castilla-León para entrar ya en GALICIA, por la provincia de Lugo. Los 8 kilómetros últimos, después de Las Herrerias son, paisajísticamente, magníficos. La elevación, una vez salimos del sendero entre bosques, permite una perspectiva del paisaje que lo hace especial.

Mucha gente, al saber que ya he completado varias veces el Camino de Santiago Francés, me pregunta: -qué etapa es peor?, O Cebreiro o Saint Jean Pied de Port?. Pues no tienen nada que ver la una con la otra. Empezar en Saint Jean solo es recomendable para peregrinos preparados físicamente, para culminar una etapa de 20 kilómetros en constante ascenso al raso, con el viento, lluvia, frío, nieve o sol, que complican la marcha y después 6 kilómetros en bajada pronunciada con un firme lleno de piedras y tierra que causa lesiones para aquellos que no estén acostumbrados al senderismo. Sabiendo que es la primera de las etapas a realizar en tu peregrinación, jugarse hacer esta es, con seguridad, andar mal o no poder seguir el resto del peregrinaje. Por otra parte, O Cebreiro es una etapa relativamente corta y en principio, la mayoría de peregrinos venimos haciendo otras anteriores, así que físicamente, te enfrentas a un sendero poco complicado para lo que ya llevas hecho. Paisajísticamente, ambas son IMPRESIONANTES. Pero la climatología puede jugarte una mala pasada en ambas. La niebla, que muy a menudo está presente en ambas regiones, puede impedirte ver lo que deberías ver y sorprenderte. Así que no se pueden comparar.

Antes de todo querría agradecer a Blanca, Casa Rural EL RECANTO, donde desayuné en su panadería y que me acompañó desde Vega de Valcarce hasta Ruitelán, los primeros kilómetros para que no saliera sola y se volvió a seguir con sus cosas, que no son pocas obligaciones las que tiene. Y después de la despedida, «hasta pronto» que nos dijimos, seguí camino hacia O Cebreiro, con un día soleado, excepcionalmente, y un firme seco, cosa más rara aún.

Al llegar a O Cebreiro me esperaban en el Hotel O Cebreiro. Aunque no demuestran más interés por mi que por otro peregrino, a pesar de las veces que me he alojado allí, me dieron la que para mí es LA MEJOR HABITACIÓN. No se si servirá de algo agradecerles a través del BLOG esto, pero debo hacerlo, porque me encanta esta habitación…… puedo ver llegar peregrinos sin moverme de la habitación. Es algo distraído cuando no hay otra cosa que ver.

Comí, cené y desayuné en el Hotel. Aunque en Casa Carolo también sirven menú de peregrinos y su carta es amplia.
