Etapa de 18 km.  En 2013 decidí dividir el recorrido que hacen muchos peregrinos desde Rabanal del Camino a Ponferrada porque la consideré larga y acerté, teniendo encuenta mi poca preparación física para andar tantos kilómetros en un día (34 km). Años más tarde, he seguido partiendo la etapa porque es dura por su firme. La climatología condiciona, en muchas ocasiones, el final de las etapas. Es importante consultar la previsión meteorológica  en internet antes de la salida del Hotel para llevar en la mochila lo necesario, para tener una etapa sin problemas, como por ejemplo, palos, capelina y la credencial.

La maragatería sucumbe a El Bierzo, que se presenta en un crudo descenso entre pastos y piornos. El Acebo, Riego de Ambrós, Molinaseca, a orillas del río Meruelo, y Campo vertebran la etapa y la dotan de la infraestructura necesaria para llegar con éxito a Ponferrada, capital de la comarca.

Aconsejo llevar doble calzado hoy. Hay tramos como los de la etapa anterior, con mucha piedra y tierra. Si ha llovido necesitaremos Gore-tex. Pero hay, también, mucho asfalto. Entre paso por poblaciones pequeñas y la larga entrada a Ponferrada, es mejor calzar algo fresco, transpirable.. Para no dañar los pies, hay que llevar algo extra de peso y poder cambiar la bamba según el firme.

Han cambiado la entrada a Ponferrada para los peregrinos. No se baja ya por este camino que daba la opción de visitar esta fuente, pero se puede llegar hasta ella desviándote del nuevo acceso de peregrinos a la Ciudad. En realidad me constan 3 entradas a Ponferrada o variantes que se han marcado en estos últimos caminos que he hecho.
